Erin Petersen

Experience and Education

Mrs. Petersen was born in Phoenix, Arizona. After second grade she moved to Sun Valley, ID. After highschool she found her love for teaching through volunteering in Xi’an, China, where she taught English in a primary school for six weeks.

Mrs. Petersen attended the University of Hawaii, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2009, a Master’s Degree in Education: Curriculum Studies with an emphasis in Literacy and a Reading Certificate K-12 in 2013. She taught four years in a 2nd and 3rd-grade multiage classroom in Honolulu, Hawaii.

After eight years in Hawaii Mrs. Petersen moved here, with her husband.

Mrs. Petersen has been teaching Kindergarten at Our Lady of Guadalupe School for the last three years. She has also earned a preliminary multiple-subject California State Teaching Credential.

Mrs. Petersen is aware of her diverse learning community and she believes that students learn at different paces and in different ways. She believes in giving the students opportunities to share their strengths with the rest of the class. Her teaching belief also incorporates a constructivist view, where her students are able to learn holistically through experience (self-discovery), learn to think critically (higher order thinking skills), and learn though authentic context.
