School Board


The general responsibilities of the Consultative School Board are in the following areas: strategic planning; policy development; resource development; institutional advancement; advice and counsel with regard to financial planning, management and reporting; marketing of the school and evaluation of the Council’s goals and activities.

The membership of the Consultative School Board should include the pastor, principal, parents (no more than one-third of the total membership), alumni parents, parishioners, members of the civic and local business community, and area educators. Under Canon Law and Archdiocesan guidelines (see Administrative Handbook for Bylaws), the members advise the administrative team (pastor and principal) and cannot make decisions binding for the parish education program without the approval of the administrative team (A Primer on Educational Governance in the Catholic Church, the CACE/NABE Governance Task Force, NCEA, 1998).


Fr. Paul Gawlowski joined the Conventual Franciscans after getting to know the friars as a Parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hermosa Beach, CA. He was working as an Electrical Engineer in the Aerospace industry at the time. As a friar he has; served as a teacher of Religion and Physics at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, CA., received his MDiv at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley CA, has served as Social Outreach Director, Associate Pastor and then Pastor of St. Paul of the Shipwreck Church in San Francisco, and as the Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Grace in Castro Valley CA, where he also served as the Province Vocation Director. Fr. Paul also serves as a member of the Province Definitory to advise the Provincial.  His most memorable ministries were; founding and managing the Sister Thea Bowman Food Pantry, the After School Sports and Arts Academy, and community organizing for homeless housing, and anti-violence especially through street vigils. It was as a pastor that he learned to love administering the sacraments, preaching, teaching, and pastoral ministry. He is an advocate of the New Evangelization and enjoys sports and music in his leisure time.

April Beuder currently serves as the principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe School. She has extensive experience in Catholic education in Preschool-8th grade, including 20 plus years of experience in Early Childhood Religious Education.  She and her husband live in Manhattan Beach where they raised their three sons, who also attended Catholic elementary school. Dr. Beuder holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership for Social Justice, as well as an M.A. in Elementary Education, and an M.A. in Catholic School Administration.

Kathe Barnes currently serves as the Vice Principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe School. She ran her own Family Day Care for 6 years until her children were all old enough to be in school. Then, she began her preparation as a credentialed teacher and Catholic School Administrator. She taught primary and intermediate age children for 18+ years, and now serves in her current role full time. She has 3 children that graduated from OLG, a son and 2 daughters, and now her grandchildren are both attending this school beginning in the preschool.

Jolene Blee currently serves as the 2nd grade teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe School. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University, and has been teaching at Our Lady of Guadalupe School since 2018. She has also been a swim instructor for over 12 years. She grew up in the South Bay, attending Catholic Schools preschool through high school. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially at the beach.

Rori Turnquist serves as a defense contractor for the United States Space Force with OMNI Consulting Solutions in El Segundo. She has her BA in accounting and has been working in space acquisitions for 15+ years. Rori is the proud wife of Blake who is also a defense contractor and serves as a reservist for the United States Air Force, and mom of two amazing  girls currently attending Our Lady of Guadalupe School. She most recently served as PTO co-president for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 school years. She enjoys spending time with Blake, their two girls, and pups Angus and Boba.

Joelle Hirabayashi Barrett is a retired Foreign Exchange Trader and Office Manager for several law firms, including The Barrett Law Firm APC.  Had two BAs from the University of Massachusetts in French and Education (Applied Behavioral Sciences/Group Dynamics) and a Paralegal Degree from UCLA.  She and her husband live in Redondo Beach where they raised four children (three daughters and one son), all who went to Our Lady of Guadalupe School from 1995 to 2015.  She currently has a grandson in Our Lady of Guadalupe School’s preschool.  Has served on PTO, Fiesta, and volunteered for many field trips and sport teams during her children’  stay at Our Lady of Guadalupe School.

Mauri Rummel, a lecturer in Economics at Cal State Long Beach, brings a diverse background as a former aerospace engineer, real estate professional and IT developer. She is also a proud mother of four students at Our Lady of Guadalupe School. As a second-generation South Bay native, Mauri actively engages in youth-focused community activities. At OLG, she has served as a room parent, classroom helper, webmaster, robotics coach, academic decathlon coach, and programming instructor. In the Hermosa Beach community, Mauri represents five Scouts BSA and Cub Scouting troops, leads the girl’s cub scouting program, and is a member of the Hermosa Beach Rotary.  

Cassandra Stokes serves as a wealth management professional with extensive experience advising families on financial, estate, legacy and philanthropic planning. Earlier in her career, Cassandra spent several years in philanthropy at the Office of Development at Stanford University and in government at the US Department of Education and the US Senate. Cassandra holds an MPA from Harvard University and an MBA from UCLA.

Prithi Savio serves as an Analytics Manager in an eCommerce Company for the last 5 years. She did her schooling, Bachelors and Masters in Catholic institutions. She started her career as an Assistant Professor in Engineering Colleges under Catholic institutions for 10 years. Then completed her 2nd Masters from USC in Engineering Management. She currently has her daughter and niece in Our Lady of Guadalupe School. She enjoys volunteering in school and Church activities.

Tammy Kostan is a retired elementary teacher with over 20 years of experience as an educator. Prior to teaching, she worked as Director of Business Affairs for Warner Bros. Tammy holds a BA from UCLA in Economics and later earned her teaching credential from Cal State Dominguez. She grew up in Manhattan Beach where she attended both Catholic and public school. Currently, she enjoys volunteering and occasionally substitute teaching at Our Lady of Guadalupe School.
